Faith Like A Mustard Seed

Brietta Paladin

dsc03837.JPGTiny seeds were distributed into small hands. Immediately, there was grasping of chubby fingers as they tried to keep the seeds from scattering to the ground.

“Too small!” my youngest son cried anxiously as he lost hold of the seed he had been given.

Yes, too small, I thought to myself.

My faith, fragile and tiny like those seeds, about to scatter in spite of my desperate attempts to hold tight. I try to keep it, to hang on, but it spills into the crevices of my grasp. I begin to lose hope.

“Don’t worry,” Daddy tells his son. “It fell into the dirt. Now it will grow into a big plant.”

I catch Daddy’s eye, and he gives a little smile and wink as he pops a seed into the ready dirt.

Can it be? I wonder. That the Giver of faith will continue to supply when I am weak? when my faith slips through my fingers? when I have failed to keep up my end of the bargain?

The answer is yes.

He supplies, again and again and again. He waters. He causes growth. These plants of faith in certain areas of my life, they are not of my own ability or doing. I strain and struggle and do my best, but in the end it is my Heavenly Father who completes the work.

And He is a good farmer. His Word does not return void.

I smile back.

It is a blessing to be a child.

  2. Hi! First, I want to comment on the idea of having a blog with for mom and girls. This is an awesome idea! How wonderful.

Now, on to the post at hand. I am always thinking of this myself. Not having enough faith. Wondering often how small my faith must be, if having the faith of a mustard seed could cause such wild things to happen as Jesus said would, then, my faith must only be visible through a microscope. lol Thanks for sharing!

It is amazing what we learn through the eyes of our children, isn’t it? :)

  5. This actually brought tears to my eyes, Brietta, so beautiful. Maybe especially as a mom with young kids we get a clear picture of what childlike faith is in the Father and His faithfulness.

  6. Amen and amen. He is the perfect Father. May your faith continue to grow, and remember, God has no grandchildren–only children.
